Luxury Portrait Photography for Women Who Think They’re Not Photogenic

Luxury Portrait Photography for Women Who Think They’re Not Photogenic

Why Every Woman Is Photogenic – The Truth Behind the Camera

Let me start by saying this clearly:
YOU ARE PHOTOGENIC!

Are you someone who’s convinced you’re just not photogenic? That you never like how you look in photos? Let me tell you this: everyone is photogenic.

You first need to understand what the word photogenic really means. From Latin, it translates to “producing or emitting light.” What most people don’t realize is that we all emit light — but not everyone has had theirs captured.

Your physical appearance only makes up a small part of a portrait.

As a portrait photographer, my unique talent lies in magnifying what makes you visually powerful. In other words, I can see the light you emit — and amplify it.

Let me show you how I know that you are photogenic. The truth is, you’ve just never been photographed by someone who truly knows how to bring it out of you.

Breaking the “I’m Not Photogenic” Cycle Through Empowering Photography

Here’s the problem: thinking you’re not photogenic creates a self-fulfilling loop of bad photos and low self-esteem.

You see a photo you don’t like and silently confirm, “See, I knew I wasn’t photogenic.” So next time you’re in front of a lens, you feel stiff and uncomfortable. And that tension dims your inner light — again.

It becomes an endless downward spiral, and your confidence keeps shrinking.

Let me show you a few portraits of women who believed exactly the same thing before they stepped into my studio.

How to Look Confident and Beautiful in Luxury Portraits

1. Lighting – The Secret to Radiance
2. Camera Angles – Show Your Best Side
3. Lens Choices – The Right Tool for the Perfect Result
4. Posing – The Power of Subtle Adjustments
5. Clothing & Styling – Elevate Your Visual Impact

The Secret to Looking Photogenic in Every Professional Portrait

After years behind the camera, I’ve mastered the technical tools — but the real magic?

It’s in the connection.

The connection between the person in front of the lens and the one behind it.

As a portrait photographer, I create a space where you can let go, feel safe, and let your light rise to the surface. That’s where your transformation happens — and where iconic images are born.

Be Photographed for Your Children – Leave a Legacy of Beauty and Strength

I hope that reading this has eased your anxiety and shown you that you ARE photogenic.
Just look at the portraits I’ve created of everyday women — they’re radiant, powerful, and real.

You are beautiful enough, right now.

One day, your children will search for photos of you. What will they find? Don’t always be the one behind the camera. Be seen. Be remembered.

Celebrate yourself at 20. Celebrate yourself at 30. At 50. At 70.

Do it because you’re worth it.

Do it because it’s an unforgettable experience.

Do it because these portraits will become heirlooms — a part of your legacy.

From Vision to Vogue: Shooting Couture in New York City

The Location: Studio REIN

Working for Harper’s Bazaar has always been a dream. In February 2023, I traveled from Germany to New York to photograph couture collections from Moschino, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Siriano, and fine jewelry from Tiffany & Co.

The shoot took place in the iconic Studio REIN – a space that’s hosted names like VOGUE, DIOR, and HBO. The creative energy in that room was something else.

Building the Mood: From Concept to Couture

We started with a black leather theme but ended up shifting into something far more vibrant and feminine. Our stylist, Luca from Los Angeles, completely nailed the direction with pieces that perfectly matched the energy of New York Fashion Week, which kicked off the week after.

Big Production, Bigger Energy

Unlike my usual intimate studio setup in Germany, this was a full-scale production: one makeup artist, one hair artist, two stylists, three assistants, one tech, and a six-light setup.

Directing a team at that level was new for me—but also thrilling. It pushed me in the best way, creatively and professionally.

Shooting in a Pro Studio with a Cyc Wall

There’s a reason top fashion shoots happen in studios with a cyc wall. That smooth, endless background removes all distractions and gives the final images a polished, elevated feel.

In this case, the cyc wall helped us control light with total precision. Every shot came out clean and print-ready. If you’re aiming for that crisp, editorial quality—this is how you get there.

Alexina Graham – What It’s Like Working with a Real Pro

Working with Alexina Graham was honestly such a wild experience—in the best way.

It kind of felt like cheating. I’d show her the mood board, say a few words, and boom—new pose, new expression. Every single frame was different. She just got it.

She’s also absolutely stunning, so honestly, it was hard to take a bad photo of her. But what stood out most was her attitude: professional, grounded, and totally focused.

It was one of those rare shoots where everything clicked—the styling, the light, the energy. And Alexina brought it all together.

Published in Harper’s Bazaar – A Career Milestone in Fashion Photography

Sharing Pages with Icons Like Annie Leibovitz and Richard Avedon

Seeing my name and my work in Harper’s Bazaar felt unreal. This is the same magazine that published work by legends like Annie Leibovitz, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, and Lillian Bassman.

To be featured in the same publication as them? That’s something I’ll never forget.

It made me proud. It made it real. And yes—it elevated my brand. Moments like this remind you how far you’ve come and where you want to go next.

Because it’s one thing to say you’re a photographer. It’s another to say your work has been published in Harper’s Bazaar.

White Eyeliner Trend for Beauty Portraits

White eyeliner makeup trend 2020 – photo studio Starnberg

Sofia Schwarzkopf Tilbury, the creative executive of the famous luxury makeup and skincare brand Tilbury, believes that it`s the EYES which are going to be the main focus for makeup this year. And many beauty bloggers, stylists and magazines are confirming it. We can expect a lot of creativity playing with white eye-liner, eye-jewels and embellishments, colder tones, but also some eternal classics such as red lips and moisturized-healthy skin. I`m very curious about these trends and I would like to experiment them together with my MUA at my Photo-Studio in Starnberg.

So let’s have a look at them one by one. Some of the used pictures are from Shutterstock.

Celebrity MUA Patrick Ta, predicts nontraditional eye-liner colours to become more and more popular. “Cream and white eyeliner are going to be huge,” he says. It has already appeared on lots of red carpets and runways at the beginning of the year and not only as a straight lash line, but also in more creative floating and freehand versions. Actually it became trendy in 2015  when many celebs experimented with this look and now its back. This scenographic style is perfect for the studio portraiture and I can’t wait to try it in some stylized beauty photoshoots. For Senior Portraiture it`s also possible to experiment a bit more and design Keith Haring-like lines telling a certain story.

Classic Blue Makeup Look – Inspired by Pantone

Blue tones makeup trend 2020 – photo studio Starnberg

After a year-lasting obsession with warmer tones, it’s time to cool down and look closer to more blues, purples and green. After all, Pantone announced The Colour the Year 2020, and you can guess…… it’s Classic Blue.

“Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”

I plan to incorporate more blues into my shooting not only through  makeup styling, but also by using color gels for studio lightening, blue tone backdrops and of course a wide selection of studio wardrobe.

Face Embellishments for Creative Portrait Sessions

Eye embellishments and stickers – makeup trend 2020 in Starnberg

If you’re not sticking something on your face, you’re not doing it right. This year, it’s time to play with stickers and little face-jewel embellishments. Whether you choose a star-shaped patch or a nail sticker, adorning your face with add-ons is a new-decade mood. This joyful trend is perfect for more fashionable and magazine-inspired photoshoots, where we can go far from ordinary and experiment with different looks (like I did in one of my recent photoshoots – the top right picture).

Red Lips – Classic Glamour for Portrait Photography

Classic red makeup trend – feminine glamour photo studio Starnberg

Of course, eternal, sexy and always elegant classics red lips, in one form or another, pop up on the runways every season. Red rouge can undoubtedly underline every smile and I love to photograph women when they smile. I use it quite often during my Feminine Glamour Shoots, usually passing from more natural tones at the beginning to end-up with perfect and more extravagant red lips. In combination with clean foundation and perfect skin, it will never go out of style. Many of my clients are not used to see themselves with such “aggressive” rouge, but we can always decide to give it a try at the end of the sessions and I can tell you that most of them fall in love with the “bold and daring” new woman in the mirror. And of course passionate red doesn’t stay only in the makeup styling but extends to dresses and accessories. I stopped even counting home many red dresses I have in my studio wardrobe in Starnberg. And to go even further we can also opt for the tone in tone style by introducing red light gels (like you can see on the photo of my beautiful Makeup Artist here bellow).

“There is a shade of red for every woman.” ― Audrey Hepburn.

One big thanks goes to Emily London Miller for the portrait of me in an iconic red dress in Paris (last picture).

Clean Beauty and Sustainable Makeup Choices

Eco-friendly and high-quality makeup – photo studio Starnberg

It’s really great to say that product sustainability is becoming non-negotiable in the beauty industry. Customers are more and more drawn to greener, natural and responsible brands, and being more and more informed are not anymore blindly buying brand with big claims, but requiring proves and certificates. And on the other hand brands are definitely becoming more aware of the impact they are leaving on the earth and most of them are doing their best to reduce it.

My professional MUA is selecting for my clients the best quality makeup and skincare brands for their styling.
